Post subject: SNES9X v 1.39 and Netplay question
Reply with quote
I was trying to play mario kart with a friend using SNES9X v 1.39 (windows using crossover office),

anyways , I set my self up as the server and gave him my IP address but he said he couldn't connect he was at "0%", so how does one acctually go about useing net play in SNES9X?

also sorry for; all but abandonning my other thread I just got caught up playing all the roms I have,

the reason I use roms is because my game packs batteries are dead, so I can't save with out the games freezing.

Do you have a router or a firewall?

not that I am aware of, I am on Suse linux 10.0, and I did not set up any firewall or anything.

one of my thoughts is that the port # might be incorrect, but I wouldn't know what to set it to for an internet connection... right now it's on port _1996 is that a networking port or an internet port? (phone jack)

because thats what I need; the number for the phone jacks port.

but then again that may not be the problem, it's just a guess on my part, this networking is all new to me...

thanks for your help so far though, I look forward to your response.

The number of the phone jack would be your home number Laughing

So both of you don't have routers then? Did you have him try to set up a server?

the port number is my home number?, my home # doesnt work it only allows 5 digits for a port number...

and no I only tried my self as the server, because he wasn't too hot on revealing his IP.

and no; no routers...

Oh and if I disappear for a while it's because I'll be going on vacation during the next week from this tuesday to next tuesday. but I should come back and post after which.

I would assume you would use port 80. That is the port you use for internet connections. I honestly have never used NetPlay in SNES9x so I am just guessing on this one.

But either way, be sure to give him your actual IP address, and not an IP address mask.

Also, are you using dial-up or a high-speed connection to the internet?

Dial up, I think he's on high speed,

Ok I'll try port 80, thanks!, port 80 gave me the message, trying to connect to snes9x server 0%, so I think socket port 80 might be windows only, any ways I tried port "0" and that seems to work for my PC as I'm on linux, but my friend will probably need to use port 80, thanks...

and I have been using my actual IP, actually annother quck question, I have a gate way address, and my own IP address I would use my own IP correct?

You need to use the IP address that the internet sees when you connect to it.
www.whatismyip.com if you don't know it.

Although, since you are on dial-up and he is on high-speed, I think that might be your biggest issue. Dial-up and high-speed don't play well together most of the time.

turns out he was using a different snes9x distro, we switched to 1.51 and netplay seems to work however for some reason he didn't get the entire rom image... and we didn't get to playing the actual game online yet...(there might still be problems)

on a different note now that I have 1.51 the latest release, I started to monkey around with all the new features such as visdeo recording and such... and I encountered a new problem, I can't seem to record as an avi, when I do the sound mutes and the file that it records to is only 2.0 KB (no matter how long I record) bassically it only records a few frames...

but no worries with that as I have e-mailed the creator of snes9x for help on those tech issues,

big note mabey all these tech problems are arising because I'm running a windows distro of Snes9x in a linux environmnet....?

That is possible. Some programs tend to get funky when you run them off of their native environment.

But thanks for the update and letting us know what was up!!

As for the video recording, are there not other options besides AVI?

the only other option is .smv and that only records keystrokes, not actual video frames or sound.

at least thats the only other video recording format I've found in it...
